Trail is a loop with half of the loop following the River to River trail.
Terrain is rugged with many sandstone bluffs and steep ravines.
Horses are NOT allowed on red cedar hiking trail. Citations will be issued.

Cost: $20/night*
*$30/night on the holidays of Memorial Day, 4th of July and corresponding weekend, and Labor Day. Applies Mon to Fri. 3-day minimum stay.
Amenities: water, primitive toilets, electricity, and hitching posts. Dump station, modern toilets, showers are a short walk to main campground.
Reservations: Reserve a space.
Designated horse trailer parking at the rear of the equestrian campground.
Hitching posts available at Giant City Lodge for equestrians to tie up during a meal or gift shop experience.
Alcohol is prohibited on horse trail.
Do not tie horses to trees.
All plants and animals are protected in state parks. Take nothing, leave nothing.
To get to equestrian trailhead and equestrian camping, from Makanda travel South on Shiloh Rd. Turn left or East on Giant City Park Rd. Less than a mile from the turn, the equestrian trailhead will be on the right on an unnamed road.
The horse rental stables are on the North side of the park off of Giant City Rd., which does not connect directly to Giant City Park Rd. where the equestrian camping is located.
